Thanksgiving with Mom and Dad

We were really lucky this year, and got to have my mom and dad at our home for the week of Thansgiving. (They can last year, too, but Amy and Josh were still here, and we had the big meal at their place.) It was a lot of fun. I took the week off work and we got to spend a lot of time with them.

We went to a Museum in Denver and saw the travelling Titanic Exhibit. It was cool to see all the stuff they had from the ship. They had way more than I expected. I was really suprised how much of it was in perfect condition.

When you go in, they give you a boarding pass with a name that matches a passenger from the trip. At the end you get to find out if you lived. Kristie was the only one of us that made it in the end.

We went downtown for lunch, and I showed them the Architecture Department at UCD. Kristie took the opportunity to destroy me in Ping Pong. The best thing about eating lunch with mom and dad is that at some point during every meal my dad goes away and comes back with brownies or cookies for everybody.

Kristie and Dad eating at Noodles.

Scott and Mom. I think this was the day it got really really cold.

Yep.

On Thankgiving, we made a super tasty roast, and some sides and had a fun day together, and then gorged ourselves on Kristie's desserts.

While they were here, we got the news that Grandpa Sam had passed away. This was really hard, but we are glad we could be with my mom as she tried to cope with the news. They stayed an extra week (which was great, but bittersweet because of the circumstances), and then we drove down to Lordsburg with them for the funeral. I'll write more about this in the next entry.
Kristie and I wanted to let Mom and Dad know how much fun it was to have them here for so long. We used to hang out with them alot when we were in Gilroy, and it really felt like old times again. We really love and miss them both, and I think I look forward to displaying Madame Honeydew after Dad and I win next time.

well I didn't squeal...but Quincy clapped, does that count?

Mom looks freezing in every picture.

Mmmm noodles...I could go for some wisconsin mac and cheese right now, or Oooh! Penne Rosa!

Did you know that Madame Honeydew topped the "FANCY" tree in the living room this year? I put her up there, dad was too proud showing her off to his friends, and mom was too scared to get up on a ladder to get her down. So Madame Honeydew is the very first ornament in the "other" category to don on of mom's Fancy Trees.

I like that Taylor has dubbed the watering can/red berry tree in the family room the "Mother Nature Tree".

It looks like you guys were eating pie in one of those pics. Does kristie bake pie now? If she had pulled out a peach pie you would have opened the Almond Box christmas morning for sure.

I think the only reason melinda REALLY won is because she introduced dad to the Running Rooster cookies and spaghetti.

I'm surprised there are no pics of dad with lacey. I've heard they were quite the pair. I can't imagine Lacey being more excited to see anyone than when she sees Kristie come home from work.

We had such a great time with you guys. We even had some great adventures, like the time you made me eat that weird faaaaaa soup with some kind of meat in it. I have to admit that I liked the soup. Thanks for letting us stay so long. It was a nice quiet before the storm of all that came afterwards.

I love you both,
Mom

Hey Scott, I'm glad you have been enjoying the progress, someone should! I plan to keep the pictures coming as we move along, and I would be happy to let your parents come take a look, although I don't know if they will drive 2 hours to see. :) They can always look at pictures though.

I have read over your blog a bit and it is really funny! I guess I am joining the fan club with Hollee and Meg.

The wife and I are back in the Springs. Here is what I envision. The day before we come up to visit, you leave the hose dripping in your driveway all night. Then we get in our bathing suits and we slide down on our bellies. Either that or we do something else. One of those two things.
